Predator StandOff

StandOff

Hunting predators is by far my favorite form of hunting. Don't get me wrong I sure do love hunting big game and especially calling elk during the rut but those are seasonal hunts. Calling predators is year round and it never gets old. Its always a different experience and has new challenges. The best part is its full of exciting action. They come into the call to find you. They come into the call to hunt you. It's a hunter vs hunter, a predator vs predator. It's a StandOff, a Predator StandOff.

History of Predator Hunting

I would go Javelina hunting with my family. I was very intreged with the distress call my dad had. I loved blowing into it. I started learning more about how and why distress calls are used and I bought my own. I began a passion for hunting calls.

I would go out hunting with my brothers and dad and we would try and call something in but didn't have much luck. After hunting much and putting in some time trying to figure it out it got discouraging because I couldn't seem to call a coyote in. I know now why and its because we were doing it all wrong. We didn't have a clue. I called a buddy that had started having some success and we went out on our first hunt together. He showed me the basic understanding of how to hunt predators. I watched him kill a dog just 15 yards away. I was hooked after that hunt. I still did not have the confidence because had yet to call in a dog. We went on another hunt together and finally I made it happan, I called my first dog in. The more you hunt these critters the better you will get. You will gain experience and knowledge of how to hunt them. Most importantly you will gain confidence which will help you stay persistant.

Now days when I go out and hunt predators I expect to call one in every time and I do.  I also never become comfortable as a predator hunter. In other words I am always seeking to learn more and gain more experience. I am willing to try new things and become better.
This is my first coyote I ever shot and if you look closely the dog is lying at my feet.

About Brett

I have always had a passion for the outdoors. My favorite of all is to camp, hike and hunt. Ever since I was a kid I just enjoyed being in the wilderness. In those days it was just about being out there experiencing the joy of the outdoors. It didn't matter if I had a gun or binoculars, all I needed was my back pack full of goodies and something camoflauge. Now days its also about being out there enjoying nature only I'd better have my gun, call and binos because im ready to hunt hard. I still have my treats only now I  save them more for back at camp around the fire with the guys where we can talk about the stories and good times we had being out hunting.

If you want to know a little about me I could sum it up in 5 different catagories of who I am.

1) I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
2) I love my Family. I love spending time with my family, doing things together and building our relationships. I love my wife, she is beautiful in everyway. I love my son, he is the sweetest and most handsome little boy a father could ask for. I love my two little dogs even though they tear up my back yard, bark all day and cost me money.
3) I like sports including; Mountain Biking, Snow Boarding, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball and Ultimate Frisby. I also enjoy watching the Basketball and Football, the Olympics and other sports but mostly just the Championships.
4) I love camping. I would choose camping over any vacation except a cruise with all you can eat!
5) I love hunting. My favorite aspects of hunting is calling, glassing and long range shooting. My favorite type of hunting  is predator calling and you'll soon see why. I also enjoy hunting elk, deer, bear, javelina, turkey, praire dog, dove, and small game.
